That line is not in my config file either so putting it in with a leading hash tag would do nothing. Windows can see the ubuntu machine and and the shared folders, plus copy files from it and push (copy files to it) files to it.Īs for putting the hash tag in front of security=share, means you have actually commented that line in the config file, where without the hash tag it was telling Samba that security = share.

Ive noticed that there was an unattended security upgrade related to samba as you can see below. Authentication stopped working yesterday while nothing on GIT server or AD has changed.
